He Dreiht — 960 MW of offshore wind powering 1.6M homes — goes live in 2025. They’re testing wireless power transfer under the sea to cut cable losses by 20%. Imagine: no wires, no corrosion, no downtime.
The He Dreiht offshore wind farm, located in the German North Sea, is set to become one of the largest offshore wind farms in Germany, with a total capacity of 960 MW. This project will generate enough electricity to power approximately 1.1 million households, contributing significantly to Germany's energy transition efforts. The wind farm will feature 64 Vestas V236-15 wind turbines and is expected to start operations in late 2025. The project is being developed without state funding, focusing on power purchase agreements as a substitute for traditional feed-in remuneration. EnBW's CEO, Georg Stamatelopoulos, has stated that the company aims to invest USD 43 billion in renewable energy projects worldwide, with He Dreiht playing a crucial role in achieving this goal.
